Criminal defence lawyer Sarah Leamon accepts a wide range of cases, ranging from assault and shoplifting to driving prohibitions and violation tickets, but she specializes in impaired driving. Sarah has particular knowledge of the 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition scheme and has been defending IRP’s all across British Columbia since they were first introduced in September, 2010.

Sarah has succeeded in countless IRP reviews. She has been defending IRPs since the law was first introduced. Sarah has developed unique arguments on these cases, including challenging what evidence must be adduced in order to prove that the device used is, in fact, an Approved Screening Device.

Sarah has been successful in defending IRP’s where individuals have provided a breath sample that result in a ‘warn’ or ‘fail’ reading and in circumstances where individuals have failed or refused to provide breath samples. Sarah is currently handling numerous IRP appeals in the BC Supreme Court. She has secured the return of drivers licenses for hundred of clients in B.C. She has also been successful in having driving prohibitions revoked on supplementary reconsideration by the Attorney General and returned for a new review.

Sarah Leamon was born and raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta. She earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Calgary and a Masters Degree from UBC. Sarah went on to earn Juris Doctor from Bond University in Queensland, Australia. Her academic career focused on criminal law, miscarriages of justice and the application of the Charter of Rights. Her current areas of practice are mainly in the areas of criminal defense, administrative law and driving law.

Sarah Leamon is compassionate and friendly, but she is also a tough straight talker who knows how to get the job done. Before she was a lawyer she drove gigantic mining trucks in the oil sands of Northern Alberta, served tables in Calgary, studied and worked on two continents and completed post-graduate work at UBC. She is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).

In her space time, Sarah acts as Board Chair for PACE Society in Vancouver's Downtown East Side. PACE provides barrier-free frontline services and support for survival sex workers and works to promote equality and safety within the community. She is also a regular columnist with the Georgia Straight, writing on legal and political issues from a uniquely Canadian perspective. Sarah makes routine television news appearances, acting as a legal commentator, on networks such as GlobalBC, CTV and CBC.

As a member of both the Law Society of British Columbia and the Law Society of Alberta, Sarah accepts cases in a wide range of jurisdictions. In addition to her work in Vancouver and the B.C. Lower Mainland, Sarah also accepts criminal cases in Alberta, including in her hometown of Fort McMurray.
