My name is Katherine King. I received my 200H Yoga Teacher Training for Ashtanga VinyasaYoga in India January 2014. I took this course to better my knowledge in the practice of Yoga so I could come home and spread the knowledge and the practice.
I graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology specializing in Exercise Physiology. Kinesiology provided me with an extensive background in anatomy, physiology, nutrition and care and prevention of injury.
I am currently the Head Coach of Pisiquid Canoe Club. Coaching is truly a passion of mine. Teaching people how to become an athlete, helping them find their love of sport and motivating people to reach their goals is what inspires my passion.
I am an active being. I filled my life with dancing, running, soccer and paddling. I started yoga in my first year of University while suffering from a running injury. I live by striving to incorporate the things that make me happy in my everyday life. My first Yoga class made me Happy, every time I perform Yoga I am Happy. I found Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and fell in love with the practice.
In second year I had a calling to go to India. I knew I had to do Yoga. Finishing school, I sent my application in for Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training and booked my one-way ticket to India.
The course included studying the Primary series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in Hindu and English, learning the Yogi diet, Pranayama (breath control), and Meditation.
Sri Pattabhi Jois created Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This Yoga focuses on synchronizing the breath with movement or asanas to create heat in the body. Awakening your internal fire while performing a series of postures creates a continuous flow of energy. The heat promotes a cleansing of the body by detoxifying through the lungs, skin, and intestines. As yoga happens uniting the mind, body and soul you begin to create a stronger lighter body and clear mind.
