In 1981, a group of concerned citizens came together to discuss the growing problems of people going hungry with no means to help themselves.
In December 1981, Loaves and Fishes Community Kitchen, a non-profit restaurant, opened it's doors for the first time, serving a noon-time meal.
It started as a pilot project to only last a few months but the need became apparent and is still in operation today,
At present the kitchen is serving 50,000 plus meals annually.
