There is a new modeling training facility and agency in town called East Coast Model Development (“ECMD”).
ECMD is a training facility and agency for potential/current models, actors, singers and dancers of all ages.
ECMD is partnered with Dreams Come True Inc., a non-profit organization that creates opportunities for ECMD students to volunteer, gain experience, and learn new skills that are required in the entertainment industry. The volunteer committee of Dreams Come True Inc. work diligently to create fundraisers and events to raise money and awareness for the students of ECMD, which in turn goes toward bursaries, scholarships, and competition funds for them.
ECMD partnered with Dreams Come True Inc. because so many of our students have been accepted for competitions all over the world but find it financially very difficult to come up with the funds to enable them to attend and take part in these competitions. Since ECMD is a family-oriented business, we encourage parents, students and employees to become involved in the fundraising process to support one another through Dreams Come True Inc. ECMD encourages everyone in their network group to help because teamwork is a big aspect of ECMD. This makes for greater success at our fundraising events.
As stated by founder Dee Whitten, "this family spirit was created to get everyone involved in the process, and it is working very well. The parents love to be involved in their children’s lives and experiences and the children are learning to accept their parent’s involvement in their journey. This has been a big learning experience for both the students and parents. “
Even though ECMD is new to Newfoundland, it is bringing well known agencies, scouts, and managers from all over the world to Newfoundland to train our talent, scout them, and give them the opportunities to go experience the entertainment industry at its best.
Marc Tuscher of Revolution Management, business associate of Dee Whitten of East Coast Model Development, is working with ECMD to train, scout, and manage exclusively with ECMD talent in St. John's, Newfoundland. "We are bringing great opportunities to the Rock" says Dee Whitten.
Not only does ECMD work with high fashion models, your stereo typical 5’9, tall, slim models, “The one in a million, states Dee Whitten, but we work with talent of all shapes and sizes as the entertainment industry is not limited in any shape, way or form. The industry is more than just that classic model which everyone has in their mind. It is about what type of model bracket you fit into and what you need to do as an individual to make it in the industry, says Dee Whitten. There are opportunities for commercial models, editorial models, actors, dancers, plus size models, kids modeling, and so forth. There are so many types of work in the entertainment industry.”
"What I notice with my classes at ECMD is that the people of Newfoundland are not aware of how this industry works and most of our ECMD students start off wanting to be that high fashion model or they just want to build confidence. Over an extended period of time students learn there are also opportunities for acting, behind the scenes work, and other aspects of the industry, Dee Whitten states.”
The ECMD program was built with the intent on helping students develop into confident, knowledgeable and healthy individuals. Our programs are designed to increase self-esteem, improve posture, walking skills, skincare knowledge, make-up application skills, audition techniques and professional photos. These skills can be used for success in any career choice as they provide you with the confident, goal making skills which enable you to feel comfortable interviewing and have the presentation skills required to get to the career path you want!

At ECMD, we have staff, parents and students that have special needs and/or have various disabilities. We accept everyone for their unique talents and work to make everyone comfortable in participating in our events and classes.
