Details

Back to Our Roots Urban Farm is a new urban farm in Dartmouth. The farm is located at the Nova Scotia Hospital which serves mental health and addictions patients/clients.

It is a community farm as a piece of health infrastructure. This farm is a seed now, and we are looking for gardeners and volunteers to help it grow!

This farm will mimic the Common Roots Urban Farm in Halifax. There will be multiple parts to the farm:

Community Garden
This garden is made up of several individual garden beds. Individuals or groups can rent a plot for the season and plant vegetables or flowers of your own choosing. Tools are available for use during open hours and compost and amendments can be purchased. Plots are 4' by 12' and the cost is $30 for the growing season. Several donated plots are also available for those who cannot afford the plot fee.

Market Garden
This garden will grow greens, herbs and vegetables. The produce will be available to purchase at a weekly market on site. The garden is still in its early stages, but we hope to have produce available in late July and throughout the fall.

The Commons
This area will, eventually, include a series of 'nibbling plots' where people can taste and harvest food for free. We also plan to have flower gardens and places for sitting and resting to enjoy the garden view.
